About Us

The Bocas is the names of a well known fishing area off the north east coast of Trinidad where a large amount of King fish (the most popular fish eaten here) are caught. When we first started out (over 24 years ago), we concentrated on seafood, primarily fish, hence our chosen name for the restaurant, D'Bocas.

Our location and cuisine has also changed over the years. The first D'Bocas restaurant was in St James and was basically conceptualized as a type of fast food "fish & chips" shop designed to give people a fish

Alternative to all the foreign franchised chicken and chips restaurants that were flooding the country at that time. From St. James we moved into two of the most popular shopping malls downtown in an attempt to improve our market share. As this improved we decided that catering would be a natural step to increasing our business but since this was virtually restricted in the malls, we again moved the business to 105 Queen Street where we added a full bar and developed our catering skills.

Realizing that this Queen Street location was also restrictive in terms of size and location, we moved to 15 Chacon Street, a much bigger location to better serve and satisfy our customers.

Now with our recent move to 68 Independence Square, Brian Lara Promenade, Port of Spain, we are enjoying even a bigger space in which to explore more possibilities regarding entertainment.

  • On weekdays DBocas provides lunch from 10:30am to downtown shoppers and the working public. These are served cafeteria style or can be taken away.

  • On Friday evenings there's Lime Time at D'Bocas with Live entertainment from 6:30pm and party time later on with the in-house DJ.

  • On Saturdays the evenings are carded for special events such as dinner shows, back-in-times parties or the restaurant can be booked for private functions.

  • On Sundays and public holidays, D'Bocas can again be booked for private functions such as weddings, anniversaries etc.
  • Catering services including bar and ices are available.

  • D'Bocas offers the full range of electronic games provided by the National Lotteries Commission including Lotto, Donsai, Cash Pot and others with which patrons can amuse themselves while dining or having a drink at our well-stocked bar.

  • With the introduction of a big screen TV, D'Bocas will feature sports specials in the various sporting disciplines such as tennis golf, football, basketball and athletics as they occur throughout the year.

Our Cuisine caters to locals and foreigners in two very distinctive ways. For the locals it is a chance to take advantage and savor home cooking of indigenous local dishes away from one’s own kitchen and foreigners get the opportunity to literally take a bite out of traditional Trini cuisine.

When we first started out we concentrated on fish with our side orders consisting of potato chips and salads. However, as the business evolved, we recognized the need to improve our service to our customers and added chicken as a staple everyday offering with another meat dish (pork, lamb, and goat) featured on specific days.

We also felt the need to utilize the ground provisions and other fruits indigenous to our Island. So in addition to the well known potato salad for instance, we make salads with breadfruit and green bananas. With green pigeon peas and dasheen bush, we make two "Trini" (trinidadian) favorites Stewed peas and callaloo respectively.

Ground provisions such as dasheen, cassava, sweet potatoes and eddos are sauteed with salt fish to make what we call one of our "belly-full" dishes. And of course no Trini menu would be complete without breadfruit or cassava Oil down with pigtail, or Pelau (a rice peas and chicken cook-up).
